News from Mountain View Farm

Hi Folks,

When I asked ben to write this week's newsletter, he came up with one succinct line- "It's too dry." While he could never be called verbose, ben did pretty much sum things up there. There is an old poem that always reminds me of ben that goes "A man of words and not of deeds is like a garden full of weeds." He is usually just too busy going from one task to another, and this week that has meant round the clock irrigation. We hopefully watched bands of rain pass to the south and north of us last week, only to miss us altogether.

Despite the drought, we have been busy harvesting, harvesting, harvesting. Peppers and eggplant are here in earnest and tomatoes are just around the corner (we hope). This time of year, reaping what we've sown becomes pretty darn hard work! We are a bit ahead of schedule with our melon and nightshade harvests due to the prolonged hot, dry weather. The grass may be dying and we have had no time to mow the lawn (sorry, neighbors!) but the farm share continues to be beautiful, varied and robust.
